This conference will be a session of Exchange Learning and Information Sharing with some of the following topics to be addressed:

• What is the profile of the students of tomorrow?
• How do faculty adapt from being practicing allied health professionals to becoming educators?
• What is the impact of Cannabis Legislation on students, colleges and campus life?
• How is social media changing the students and the learning environment?

Transition from Professional to Educator
Challenges experienced by allied health practitioners transitioning into educator roles in post-secondary institutions are well reported in the literature. Allied health faculty tend to retain their ‘health’ identity as their primary professional identity alongside that of educator, which can have the effect of making their transition experiences, and their adoption of education as their new, meta profession, difficult and stressful. In particular, allied health faculty report confusion and discomfort when they feel they must choose between the obligations demanded of them by their health profession versus the obligations demanded of them by their educational program. Educational leaders can (and have a responsibility to) play an important role in assisting allied health faculty to adjust to their dual identities. It would be to the benefit of not just our faculty, but also to our students and our organizations, if we, as educational leaders could better marshal the supports these faculty need in order to become expert educators.

The current environment and legal implications will be discussed in this session as follows: the issues of inclusions, diversity, appeals and accommodation for specific conditions, as well as the implications of social media all of which are constant factors. The needs and program implications for aboriginal students, LGBTQ2 and others must be addressed.
